What to Wear: Running Errands

February 26, 2014

Shoes: Chooka. Jeans: Old Navy. Chambray: J. Crew. V-neck: Target. Purse: Coach. Scarf: from a market in Italy (similar).

This casual outfit is perfect for running around town. Minimal and easy accessories are a must for days of errands. Cross body bag = hands are free for shopping. Flats = happy feet. Flats can be swapped out for rain/snow boots when it's freezing or slushy.

These flats are so wonderful, and adorable (if I do say so myself), the bright yellow puts a pep in my step. Can't wait until it warms up so I can wear them more often!

Kick 'em Up

February 24, 2014

Skirt: Loft (old, here on eBay). Sweater: Michael Kors. Shoes: Target (old, similar). Clutch: Gap (similar)

I went home for the weekend and it was just the break I needed. Last week was beyond stressful, so it was nice to go home and have a change of scenery. My mom is having all of our bedrooms and our bathrooms redone, so it was exciting to see how that's coming along. Our bedrooms don't have any furniture in them, so I took advantage and had a little photo shoot fun :)

Thanks for taking these pictures mom!

3. Can't stop thinking about warmer days and nautical dresses like this one from J. Crew
4. Pretty statement earrings from Baublebar.
5. Loving cognac totes right now, especially when they're this cheap!

Have a wonderful weekend!

What to Wear: To be Warm and Stylish

February 19, 2014

I'm starting a new series this week called "What to Wear." I've been thinking about doing this for a while, so I'm excited to see it come to life. Every Wednesday I'll style a look for various occasions in your life!

Jeans: Gap. Sweater: Old Navy. Checked button-up: Old Navy (similar). Coat: J. Crew. Scarf: Gap. Hat: Gap (similar). Boots: L.L. Bean. Socks: Wigwams. Mittens: Macy's (similar).

For today's What to Wear I styled an outfit that is equal parts warm and stylish (yes it's possible*). Some key things to remember:

1. Layers. I'm wearing a button up, then a tank top over it (to hide the lumpiness of the button up), and then a sweater. I also wear tights or leggings under my jeans (if they're not too tight!)
2. You are not too cool for hats. Embrace them.
3. Thick socks. They keep your feet warm, and the snow out.
4. Lipstick. Such an easy way to pull an outfit together and make it look polished.
5. Scarves. They're the perfect accessory, but also wonderful to wrap around your face when the wind picks up.

*Unless it's below zero. Then all bets are off.

Inspired

February 18, 2014

I just thought I'd share a few images from some of the awesome women who are inspiring me right now. I always look forward to reading their blog posts and seeing their instagrams. These ladies have a talent for styling and for taking beautiful pictures.

In the winter it's so easy to fall into a style rut. I know I do. I reach for dark colors, and the same favorite sweaters. These women are seriously making me want to up my style game and leaving me continuously inspired!

How to Survive Until Spring

February 17, 2014

I feel like all I talk (and hear) about is the weather. So I came up with a little list of tips and tricks to try and survive until the, hopefully not so distant, spring.

1. Rain boots. I cannot advocate Hunter boots enough (which you've probably realized by now). You can have fun with them and buy a colored pair, they project your feet from all of the snow and slush, and they're cute :)

2. Plan something. I'm a huge advocate of having something to look forward to. I have a trip to California in a week and a half (!!!) and it's what's getting me through right now. I know that it's not always possible to just up and plan a trip, but having anything to look forward to is always fun. Whether it's lunch with someone you haven't seen in a while, or going to a movie with your girlfriends.

3. Online shopping. Ha, I'm only half kidding mom. Seriously though, there are some crazy good end-of-season sales going on right now. Shopping for spring clothes will only make me lust for spring even more, but scoring a sweater for 60% off will make me excited that it's cold enough to wear it, right?

4. Find a good book (or Netflix show) to make staying inside bearable. I know that when a book is good enough, I just want to stay in bed and read all day.

Hope you're getting through!

February 14, 2014

1. Madewell D'orsay flats.
2. Obsessed with these Zara caged heels.
3. Steve Madden wedges.
4. Love these Steve Madden floral pretties.
5. My d'orsay infatuation continues with these Halogen flats.
6. Drooling over these Aminah Abdul Jillil bow heels.

There were a lot of pretty shoes that I came across this week so I decided to focus on them for this week's Fabulous Finds.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Patriotic

February 13, 2014

Without intending to, I wore this very patriotic outfit on Friday, which just so happened to be the Opening Ceremonies. Naturally I finished the look off with my "Go USA" mittens ;)

Sweater: Loft (similar). Jeans: Gap. Boots: Hunter. Necklace: c/o Dress Lily. Bracelet: J. Crew. Watch: Fossil. Mittens: gifted (similar here).

This necklace is from Dress Lily, an online site with tons of merchandise to browse through. It's like Forever 21, but cheaper! Dress Lily was kind enough to send me this necklace to review, and I give it two thumbs up. It's chic and only $9. It's very similar to a BaubleBar necklace from a few months ago, but a fraction of the price.

Full disclosure: I was sent this necklace by Dress Lily to review. All opinions are my own.

12/20

February 12, 2014

After seeing Nora and Megan's blog post about how it's National Random Acts of Kindness Week I decided I had better do one of my 20 acts! So I left a little surprise for someone at the vending machines.

Valentine

February 11, 2014

Nicole and I are back with two ways to style a Valentine's date night look!

Sweater: J. Crew Factory (sold out, similar here). Skirt: Loft (old, couldn't find anything similar). Necklace: ILY Couture. Clutch: Anthropologie. Heels: Target (similar).

I would definitely describe my style as feminine (sometimes with an edge) so a day where I can pile on the pink and flowy garments is a day that I can get behind. I know your news/blogger feeds are probably blowing up with pink outfits right now, but it's just so pretty we couldn't resist. Even though I won't (and haven't for the past few years) get to spend Valentine's Day with Mark I'm still excited for Friday! Especially since my plans involve chocolate cake :)

Be sure to head over to Nicole's blog to check out her full look and give her some love!

Self Love

February 10, 2014

Today's post is a little way personal, but it's something that's been on my mind and in my drafts for a while. For most of my life I was happy with the way I looked. Confident even. Until I wasn't. It happened over the summer, and I can't quite pinpoint when or why.

Honestly, sometimes blogging puts me through the emotional ringer. Especially when it comes to body image. I feel vain at times when I'm out in public having someone take my pictures while strangers stare at me. Looking through pictures and editing later on is an ordeal in and of itself (pictures where I'm in the middle of talking...cringe). It's not easy to post pictures of yourself for anyone and everyone to see. Especially in a world where people can say awful things and hide behind the anonymity of the internet. I was disgusted to learn that there are websites dedicated to trashing bloggers.

So as you can imagine it's a little bit scary to post pictures of me and only me every week, knowing that there could be people out there scrutinizing. Thankfully, I haven't had to deal with any of this hate because of the size of My Inner Fabulous.

Now, I know it may seem like this is all one big pity party, but that's not what I'm trying to do. I just want to be honest. I usually only post about the good things that are going on in my life, but blogging is hard, and I've even contemplated quitting because of insecurities that have come up. Then I quickly change my mind because I am madly in love with blogging. So then I move on to thinking, well maybe I'll just stay away from outfit posts for a while, because that's when the insecurity starts seeping in. Then I nix that idea too, because putting together outfits and showing them off here in my little space makes me so happy

Okay, are you still with me? By now you're probably thinking where is this going? I will tell you, dear reader. I am (and have been) making a conscious effort to love myself more. Instead of letting the nagging insecurities flood my thoughts, I am going to let my favorite things about me take their place.

I love my teeth. They are my pride and joy (I have nightmares about them getting ruined). I love my full eyebrows. I love my small forehead that does not wrinkle. I love that I have some of my mother's green in my eyes. I love that my hair is controllable. I love my small nose. I love that my feet are in proportion with my body. I love my calves, and the rest of my legs (thanks mom!).

I am a real person, with real insecurities. And here are some other women (who may not seem so real) who are inspiring me to love myself, because their thighs touch and they sure are beautiful.

1/2/3

So let's all agree to love ourselves and each other a little more. Sorry for getting so heavy on a Monday morning, but thank you so much for reading. I appreciate you :)

Inspiration Rut

February 5, 2014

I'm having a bit of an inspiration drought, so there may not be much content from me this week. I don't ever want blogging to become a chore. Therefore, I don't want to force anything and end up posting content I don't 100% love. Just wanted to stop in and say hello, and have a wonderful Wednesday!

I wore this outfit running some errands and going to appointments last week. Who says you can't be stylish at the dentist? ;)
