Pink and Black

February 25, 2015

Coat: Joa. Dress: Target (similar). Belt: Target. Purse: Forever 21 (similar). Booties: Nordstrom Rack (similar).

One of the classes that I'm in right now is a case studies class. So all we do is read case studies about companies and their advertising strategies. It's so fascinating. Anyway, we just read one about Target last week and it talked about how back in the '80's and '90's no one would be caught dead in clothes from Target. Thank god that's changed; half of this outfit is from Target! Minneapolis is a total Target town since it's based here, but I really do love that place. And they have some serious style game. Whenever I tell people that this dress (or these heels) are from Target they're shocked. Well that concludes my Target-obsessed ramble for the day.

How's your week going so far? Mine has been majorly stressful. The club that I've talked about before (National Student Advertising Competition) is heating up and subsequently keeping me up at night! Our project is due in three weeks and I'm having stress dreams every other night.

Hope your week is less stressful than mine!

*While it was actually warm enough to wear this outfit (25 degrees, holla) on the day these pictures were taken I proceeded to take this outfit off immediately after these pictures. If was replaced with my coziest cashmere sweater and blanket scarf to go see a movie with my sister.

New Balance

February 23, 2015

Shoes: New Balance. Faux leather leggings: Forever 21. Sweater: Halogen. Jacket: Gap (similar in more sizes). Purse: Coach. Sunglasses: RayBan

As I said in my Insta from the other day, I'm obsessed with these shoes. It's hard to tell but they're metallic (insert heart-eyed emoji). I have been loving the sneaker trend for a while now but just hadn't found the perfect pair to pull the trigger on, but that changed when I saw these pretties. Also, I love that New Balance has reinvented itself. They are seriously killing it right now.

This weekend was a good one; it was the perfect mix of going out and staying in. On Friday I saw Selma (so powerful) and made myself shrimp alfredo and watched movies at home. Saturday I ran errands with my sister and saw Whiplash. Yesterday I had the most amazing brunch at Loring and then watched the Oscars (boo Birdman).

Hope you had a fab weekend!

*Keeping it real: Again, it was far too cold to be sporting bare ankles. However, I had envisioned this outfit ever since I bought this jacket back in December, so I just could not wait to see it come to fruition. I was just waiting for the perfect pair of sneakers to complete the look. I can't wait for my trip to CA in a week and a half so that I can flash my ankles around ;)

Fabulous Finds

February 20, 2015

1. The cutest eyelet sweater from J. Crew (their new arrivals are amaze)!
2. The chicest drawstring pants I've ever seen from J. Crew (they look cuter in person)!
3. Love these wedged booties from Nordstrom.
4. Just bought these black and bronze New Balance. They've seriously upped their game.
5. This sequined blush sweater from J. Crew is fab.
6. Now that I've bought one jumpsuit, I want all of the jumpsuits. This one is a cheap chic option from Forever 21

This week went by surprisingly fast. Especially since it didn't get above ten degrees all week (hence the lack of outfit posts). I don't have a ton of plans this weekend. Seeing a couple movies before the Oscars (!!!), trying out a (new to me) brewery, brunching, and a bit of homework thrown in for good measure.

Hope your weekend treats you right!

All of the Layers

February 16, 2015

Vest: Nordstrom Rack (similar). Top: J. Crew (can be recreated with this and this). Jeans: Old Navy. Flats: Target (similar). Purse: Topshop (similar). Hat: Anthropologie (similar). Sunglasses: RayBan

Hi! How was your weekend? Mine was pretty excellent. On Friday I saw Still Alice (very sad, but Julianne Moore was excellent) and then made myself lasagna and watched movies. Then on Saturday I had lunch with my mom at the Sassy Spoon (#bestnameever) and it was delicious (and all gluten free)! Then I celebrated Galentine's Day with some of my girlfriends. We ordered Chinese, drank wine, and watched Titanic. Yesterday was spent as all Sundays are: homework :(

As far as this outfit goes, it's not really anything amazing, but the layers create a bit of visual interest. I wore this simple, layered look on Friday for a day of running errands

*Keeping it real: It was way too cold to wear flats, but I just couldn't bring myself to wear boots yet again. Also, I'm just feeling very uninspired when it comes to creating interesting outfits. You could say I'm ready for spring clothes!

Fabulous Finds

February 13, 2015

1. How fab are these Vince Camuto caged booties?
2. Loving these fun sunglasses from F21
3. A classic, blush shell from J. Crew Factory
4. The perfect tote for spring from Old Navy
5. Loving this utility jacket from ON.
6. The perfect basic from J. Crew in a fun color.

Phew. I talked on Wednesday about being burnt out, so this weekend is very welcome. Let's be honest, when isn't it? I'm so excited because I have almost no plans this weekend. Since Mark is on the other side of the country I get to celebrate Galentine's Day with some of my favorite ladies on Saturday night. It's the best of both worlds!

Enjoy your weekend!

Like an Olsen

February 11, 2015

Poncho: Anthropologie (similar). Scarf: Zara (similar). Necklace: J. Crew (similar). Jeans: Gap. Booties: Sam Edelman. Purse: Topshop (similar).

I don't know about you, but this week already seems to be dragging on. I'm not sure why, since it's only the beginning of the semester, but I'm feeling rather burnt out. I just feel like I'm constantly running around with my head cutoff. Here's to finishing out the week in a more organized, calm fashion!

xo Catherine

*Keeping it real: I'm not entirely sure that I love this outfit. But I do love how cozy it is! I'm sure I'll look back at this one and think, "What the hell?" I feel quite like an Olsen twin when with all of my baggy layers. Here's a picture just for funzies of me trying to make their famous duck face:

Winter Neon

February 9, 2015

Skirt: J. Crew Factory. Sweater: Old Navy (similar). Necklace: J. Crew Factory (similar). Clutch: Gap (similar). Booties: Aldo

I find that it's really easy to shy away from color and towards a sea of neutrals during the winter months. I try to make a conscious effort to wear more color during the winter and I think it helps lift my spirits :) I grounded the neon with black pieces to complete the outfit. I think it makes the colors more seasonal.

I wore this outfit out to dinner and a Tower of Power concert at the Dakota Jazz Club with my mom and sister over the weekend. It was so fun! My mom loves R&B and funk and it's definitely rubbed off on me. Live music is always a blast.

Hope your Monday is short!

xo Catherine

*Keeping it real: I got this skirt from J. Crew last spring (styled here, here, here, and here) but it got stained so I had to get rid of it. Then I saw a very similar skirt at J. Crew Factory for a fraction of the price and was so excited. I ordered it right away and when it came I realized it was exactly the same as the old J. Crew one!

Fabulous Finds

February 5, 2015

1. A fun, flouncy skirt from J. Crew.
2. A cute, Phillip Lim-esque purse from Forever 21.
3. These mint pumps from Target are so cute!
4. This watercolor top from Forever 21 is gorgeous. I would love to pair 4 and 1 together!
5. Love this rose-printed skirt from Zara.

I don't know about you, but I am so ready for the weekend! I'm not sure what it was about this week but it drained me. Tonight I'm going out to celebrate a friend's birthday, tomorrow I'm going to the gopher basketball game and then out to a concert and dinner with my mom and sister, then on Sunday I plan to lounge so hard. Hope your weekend is looking bright!

Catching Up

February 4, 2015

Today's post is a random assortment of things that are going on in my life. Just thought I'd catch you up!

A picture of Mark and I at a recent family wedding.

1. Mark left last week. It was so fun having him home for six weeks. He moved into a beautiful new apartment and started his new job. Now I just have to wait until June when I'll get to join him! I also just booked a flight to go see him for a long weekend in the beginning of March so I have that to look forward to :)

2. Sugar by Maroon 5. Seriously love this song. Most Maroon 5 songs get on my nerves, but I still love this one. Especially now with Valentine's day around the corner. Which brings me to #3...

3. Valentine's Day. I'm one of those people who actually loves this holiday. What's not to love about celebrating love (and pink things and fun candy)?? These Valentine donuts from Angel Food Bakery are just too fun!

4. So. Much. TV. With Mark being home and then the semester starting back up I have had no time to watch TV #firstworldproblems. I'm so behind on all of my shows! I'm hoping to do some serious lounging this weekend and play catch up. I'm currently watching Parks and Rec, Downton, Pretty Little Liars (I know, I know), The Mindy Project, Scandal, Grey's, and How to Get Away With Murder. Phew.

5. Stir fry. I made a seriously awesome shrimp stir fry the other day and can't wait to make it again soon! Loosely followed this recipe.

These cookies are gluten free and made with only peanut butter, an egg, sugar, and chocolate chips! Recipe here

6. Gluten free. I've long struggled with digestive issues and recently had my gastroenterologist recommend that I maintain a low fodmap diet. I know, wtf is a fodmap, right? It's a type of carbohydrate that's difficult for people like me to digest. It's found in gluten and dairy (insert wailing emoji here), two of my absolute favorite things. I've had a really hard time cutting out gluten and dairy completely (showcased by the donuts above), but I have noticed that I feel better when I don't eat it. It's a process, one that I'm struggling with, but getting better at.

7. I'm on a bit of a spending freeze right now. I've been spending a lot on dinners out and drinks with girlfriends recently (oh and a plane ticket too) so I need to be good for a while. That means that a lot of outfits coming up will be featuring older pieces. Which will be a fun challenge :)

Well, there you have it. One big mind dump. That's what's been going on in my head lately. What's been on your mind?

Red and Pink

February 2, 2015

Coat: JOA. Sweater: J. Crew Factory. Jeans: Gap. Purse: Topshop (similar). Snood: Nordstrom (similar). Booties: Sam Edelman

I recently had someone ask me how I felt about red and pink paired together and this outfit is my answer: I love it! I think the two shades compliment each other really well. I wear them together all year round, not just for Valentine's Day!

These pictures were taken at the American Swedish Institute over the weekend. It's so beautiful! It's an old mansion turned museum and definitely worth a visit. One of my best friends was in town for the weekend so we visited the museum, went out for drinks, watched movies, ate tons of cheese curds and ice cream, and did lots of catching up.

*Keeping it real: this was day three of not washing my hair so that's why it's looking a little lackluster! I made sure not to pick any pictures that zoomed in too close!
