Recent Reads Vol. 1

One of the things that I love most about winter break is that I can get back in to reading. I think I read seven books over last winter break (I'm at four so far). During the semester I'm too busy reading textbooks to have time for novels. Anyways, I thought I'd share some of my favorite recent reads.

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?

I absolutely loved this book. I really enjoyed Mindy's writing style and she kept me laughing the whole time. From talking about a traumatizing diving board incident to how she got her start in showbiz, she was witty throughout the whole book.

The Fault in Our Stars.

After hearing everyone rave about this book, I figured it was time to see what all the hype was about. I must say, it was a good read. It definitely kept my interest and made for a quick read. Although I enjoyed it, I don't think it had quite the effect on me that it did on my friends.

Bossypants

If the cover alone doesn't make you want to read this book, I don't know what will. I have so much respect for Tina Fey, and reading her book definitely solidified that. I guess I'm kind of on a female comedian kick (I'm thinking about reading Ellen DeGeneres' book next). It was really interesting to hear about being on SNL and working at NBC from her perspective. Not to mention she's hilarious, which definitely comes through in her writing.

Where'd You Go, Bernadette

I really enjoyed this book. Bernadette goes missing and her daughter tries to find out what happened to her. It's told through emails and other various correspondences. This was also a quick read, but highly entertaining and funny too!

Future reads

Dark Places

I read Gillian Flynn's Gone Girl last summer and really enjoyed it. I love Flynn's writing style. What I enjoyed most about GG was how well thought out and logical everything was. Flynn definitely did her research. So I can't help but think I'd enjoy her other book Dark Places. Both of her books are being made into movies this year, so that's an added bonus!

The Longest Ride

I've never met a Nicholas Sparks book I didn't like (and I've read every Nicholas Sparks book).

Serena

I read about this book here and it really stuck out to me. Though it sounds a bit creepy, I'm intrigued.

Have you read anything good lately?
