Neon, Neon

April 2, 2014

Skirt: J. Crew. Gingham shirt: Forever 21 (so old, similar here). Heels: Target (similar). Belt: Target. Clutch: Target

"She comes and goes, and comes and goes, like no one can." Man, do I love me some John Mayer. Fun fact: my sister and I have seen him twice in concert, and we own all of his CDs. We like to pretend that he's a nice guy, but that's another story.

This skirt is the first sophisticated neon piece that I've ever owned. Sounds like an oxymoron, doesn't it? I cannot get enough of it ("fluted" it's called--so flattering) and this chartreuse color!

Why I love Fashion (And Why You Should Too!)

April 1, 2014

The other day I overheard a woman in Macy's saying to her friend, "I just don't care about clothes and fashion anymore. I used to love it." Cue my heart breaking + jaw dropping. Don't get me wrong, I understand that kids, family, and work come first, but that doesn't mean that you have to give up what you love. I know that to a lot of people fashion and blogging and shopping seem frivolous. I fully realize that there's more to life than shopping. There's Scandal and Instagram...only kidding! But for real, I can see where they're coming from, fashion is not for everyone, but I think it should be. So here's why I love it, and why you should too!

1. It makes me feel good about myself. I think that shopping gets a bad rap. We've all been bikini/bra shopping (#nightmare) which can make us feel less than awesome. But when you find something that you absolutely love, or that makes you feel Fabulous, it's totally worth it. I think that people give up and get discouraged too easily. You may have to hunt for a while, but eventually you'll find something that you love and that loves you back.
2. You can say something about yourself with fashion. As much as we wish it weren't true, we are judgmental creatures, and first impressions matter. (Shout out to all of my friends from junior high who have stuck around and who most likely met me wearing something from Wet Seal!) Fashion and style give you the opportunity to say something about yourself and to tell people what you think of yourself. I don't know about you, but I want to say, "I am confident, put together, and fabulous."
3. You can meet people because of it. I have met some pretty great people, both IRL and virtually through blogging and a love of fashion. It's a commonality that's so easy to bond over.
4. Everyone has to wear clothes, so why not have fun with it? Think about it, you have to pick out and outfit and wear clothes every day, whether you like it, or not. So you might as well enjoy it and have fun with it. It's a really simple way to enjoy life a little bit more :)

Why do you love/hate fashion?

Perfectly Casual

March 31, 2014

Jeans: Loft. T-shirt: Old Navy. Chambray: J. Crew. Sunglasses: Rayban. Flats: Target.

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend. Mine was spent at home, which is always fun. Mark and I had dinner with my family, we watched the NCAA tournament, went to the Macy's flower show (he's such a trooper), enjoyed Sunday's beautiful weather, watched House of Cards, and snuggled a lot. We said goodbye yesterday, which is never fun. Especially when we don't know when the next time we'll see each other. On the bright side, we're getting closer to being done with goodbyes!
