Golden Pineapples

July 30, 2014

Chambray: J. Crew. Tank: Old Navy. Jeans: Loft. Watch: Fossil. Purse: Coach. Shoes: Sam Edelman

Remember this post where I said this was my uniform? Well it still is, but I've updated it a bit with some metallic pineapples. Like I said on instagram the other day, I'm not quite sure why these spunky fruits are trending, but I'm not complaining. I think it's such a fun print for summer.

Side note: I'm so used to seeing myself with lipstick, that I feel like I look washed out without it! The white on white outfit isn't helping things either. But alas, I digress.

Hope your week is going well so far! I leave for a week long visit to California tomorrow--can't wait!

Breezy

July 28, 2014

Tank top: Old Navy. Shorts: Joe Fresh. Sandals: ASOS. Purse: vintage Coach (similar). Sunglasses: RayBan

I love a structured outfit as much as the next girl, but sometimes you just need something breezy. And breezy is this outfit's middle name. I was pleasantly surprised by these Joe Fresh shorts. They're kind of silky (no wrinkles!) and they're so freaking comfortable. I wore them for a day of exploring in NYC, and they were the perfect choice. Nice and airy for hot and humid summer days.

Skirt: ASOS. Top: Old Navy. Shoes: JCPenny's. Clutch: Target (similar). Bracelets: homemade, J. Crew.

I love blush, white/ivory, and gold together. There's something so light and feminine that draws me to it. Still obsessed with this skirt, wish I had more occasions to wear it!

Travel Diary: New York

July 22, 2014

You may or may not know that I spent the last four days in NYC for my sister's college graduation trip. This was our third time to New York--we just can't get enough!

I knew that I wanted to explore Central Park on this trip, so I spent a couple hours wandering while my mom was meeting a friend and Ellen was getting her fill of the Met. I alternated between strolling around and people watching from a bench for almost two hours! It's such a huge park, with so much to see. Everyone (couples) were out in rowboats, which may be cheesy, but equally adorable.

More Central Park wanderings.

On Friday night we saw A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. So. Good. This was probably my favorite part of our trip (walking the Brooklyn Bridge was almost as good!). It was so so entertaining, and the actors were amazing!

I couldn't go to New York and not take a picture of the Plaza.

View of Chelsea from the High Line.

The quaint streets of the West Village. When can I move in?

On Saturday we had a really fun night that started with drinks, then dinner at a delicious Greek restaurant, and then after-dinner drinks and jazz at a bar. It was basically a perfect night...minus the part where I fell down the stairs in front of the entire Greek restaurant. Not drunk, I promise! Just no traction on my sandals (they were flats too). Oh the things we do for fashion.

The Guggenheim. So cool to see this building from the inside.

Mark's sister and her fiancé live in New York (we had a lovely brunch with bottomless mimosas!) and she recommended we get cupcakes at Two Little Red Hens. Seriously, the best ever.

Enjoying the view along the Hudson.

My second favorite part was walking the Brooklyn Bridge back to Manhattan at twilight. So gorgeous.

On our first two trips to New York we did a lot of touristy things like Times Square and the Statue of Liberty. So it was fun this time around to just explore more of the neighborhoods and really get a feel for the city!

Be sure to check back for a new outfit post tomorrow!

Navy Scallops

July 16, 2014

Dress: eShakti c/o. Belt: Forever 21 (similar). Clutch: Vintage Coach (similar). Wedges: Steve Madden. Bracelet: J. Crew

There's just something about navy and cognac that goes so well together. I've always liked navy, especially in the summer. During the fall and winter I'm pretty much always wearing jeans, and I don't know what it is, but I tend to shy away from wearing a navy top with jeans. So I need to take every opportunity I can get during the summer to wear it!

Now, can we talk about this dress? It's tiny scallops are to die for! I was gifted this dress from a company called eShakti. When they reached out to me I did a little research and I was very impressed. Their prices aren't outrageous (yay!), and you can customize your order! For instance, this dress was originally below the knee, but I selected that I wanted it above the knee. And if I had wanted a different neckline, there were a couple of options to choose from. They ask for your height to make sure that alterations fit, and it's reasonably priced. Win-win!

This weekend was pretty great. One of my best friends was visiting for the weekend. We saw a lot of friends, went to a the Basilica Block Party (a huge outdoor concert with lots of food, for those of you not from MN), watched movies, and ate lots of good food (donuts, obvi).

Hope you had a great weekend too!
