Valentine Mood

January 28, 2014

Images: 1/ 2 / 3 / 4 / 5

Valentine's Day is right around the corner and it has be excited/inspired. I've never understood why people get in such a big huff about Valentine's Day. I don't think we should make a huge deal of it, but what's so wrong with celebrating love?

I'm getting excited about all of the Valentine's candy I keep seeing at Target and all of the pink and red outfit choices! I bought the peplum skirt that Blair is wearing above, but I ended up returning it. So now I need to figure out another V-Day outfit. I like to be very literal when dressing for this holiday :) Who doesn't love chocolate, hearts and flowers?

Herringbone Hat

January 26, 2014

Hat: Anthropologie. Sweater: Old Navy. Pants: Club Monaco. Booties: Nordstrom Rack (similar). Clutch: Gap (similar). Necklaces: J. Crew (similar) and J. Crew Factory

I finally bought a wide-brimmed fedora! After talking about it for months I found this little number at the Anthro in Edina. I didn't want to order a hat online, because I really wanted to try it on first. I wasn't sure how I would like myself in a hat, so I was too wary to buy online. I've been stalking this hat for months, and I saw that it was in the Edina location. So when I was out to brunch there last weekend I went in on a whim and found this little guy on the sale rack! #fate

My three day weekend (I don't have class or work on Fridays!) has now turned into a four day weekend. Classes and work was canceled on Monday due to extreme low temperatures! This is my first time having school cancelled since 7th grade, so you could say I'm excited. Even without the bonus day it was an excellent weekend. On Friday I had brunch with my sister and then we watched Captain Phillips. Which was excellent, and intense: I'd highly recommend it. Then on Saturday I pretty much stayed in bed watching Breaking Bad and reading Insurgent until around 7pm when I started to get ready an '80's party I was going to.

Have a wonderful Monday!

Wanderlust

January 23, 2014

Almost all of my friends are studying abroad right now, so my newsfeeds are jam packed with European adventures. I'll come right out and say it: I'm extremely jealous. I have a serious case of nostalgia for London, and a case of wanderlust for the places in Europe I haven't been.

Prague
After seeing this picture, I don't think you can honestly tell me you don't want to be roaming these streets.

Ireland

I would love to go explore Dublin and the cute fishing towns along the Irish coast. I also wouldn't say no to shopping for some Irish fisherman sweaters :)

Germany
I'm dreaming of going to a cute German town where all of the buildings look like this.

London

Seeing pictures of friends in London makes me want to run back to this wonderful city.

I've always dreamed of going to Europe in the winter, I think it would be so beautiful and romantic. Of course when I'm dreaming about it, I'm also picturing what I would wear:

Jeans: J. Crew. Jacket: Barbour. Scarf: J. Crew. Tote: Old Navy. Boots: Hunter. Umbrella: Kate Spade.

This look would be perfect for strolling the snowy/rainy European streets. A girl can dream, right?

Fuchsia

January 22, 2014

Skirt: Target (similar). Sweater: J. Crew Factory. Necklace: J. Crew Factory. Clutch: Anthropologie. Belt: Target. Heels: Zara (similar).

I'm not sure why, but I was craving something fuchsia in my life, and this little number from J. Crew Factory did just the trick. It's was (and still is) on major sale, so I couldn't resist! Also, I know what you're thinking: bare legs in January?! Fear not, dear reader, it was 36 degrees when I took these pictures ;)

Sequined Midi

January 20, 2014

Skirt: River Island. Chambray: J. Crew. Belt: Target. Clutch: Gap (similar). Heels: Zara (similar).

This skirt is so fun, you can see how I styled it last here.

This weekend was very relaxed, there was a lot of Breaking Bad and reading involved (just started Divergent). On Saturday I had brunch with a friend at the Edina Grill (the french toast was so yummy!) and packed up my bedroom at home. My mom is redoing all of our bedrooms, so it was an excuse to go through all of the random things that have collected in my room over the years. It was fun to reminisce by looking at old scripts from elementary school plays, reading old birthday/graduation/Valentine's day cards, and listening to mix CDs from junior high. Also on Saturday, I watched the SAG awards. Then on Sunday I watched some gopher basketball and went out to see Her. It was a strange movie, but I was expecting that.

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and thanks for reading!

Favorite Looks from the SAG Awards

January 19, 2014

1. Lupita Nyong'o
Lupita looked absolutely stunning last night. That color is amaze on her, and can we just take a moment to admire her arms?

2. Amy Adams
This midnight blue color looks so pretty with her skin tone and red locks. Loving the asymmetry and that gorge sequined belt.

3. Jennifer Lawrence
I'm a sucker for sequins. This hip-hugger looks lovely on J.Law.

4. Sophia Vergara
Sophia looks stunning in her tried and true mermaid gown. Also loving those old Hollywood glam curls.

5. Camila Alves
This color is stunning on her. Overall gorgeous and super flattering.

6. Elisabeth Moss
Peggy Olson is wowing me this awards season. This look is all-around gorgeous.

7. Sandra Bullock
Sandra stunned in emerald last night. Love how she kept accessories to a minimum and let the dress do all the talking.

8. Anna Gunn
Skyler White looked gorgeous in this navy, sequined number.

Last night was my first time ever watching the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and I was not disappointed. The red carpet looks were stunning and it was so fun to see what performances other actors like best.

Fabulous Finds

January 17, 2014

1. Without really noticing it, this week's FF has a very purple/pink theme. Loving these ankle strap flats from Sole Society
2. A lovely floral print scarf from Nordstrom. Dreaming of spring.
3. I want to try out lavender nails. This Essie polish is calling to me.
4. I love a good statement necklace, and I'm always, always, always drawn to crystal ones.
5. Rebecca Minkoff sure knows how to make a lovely bag.
6. It may still be the dead of winter here, but this girl just booked a trip to California in February. So it's perfectly legitimate for me to start looking at spring wear right? ;) Starting with this J. Crew panama hat.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Stripes + Leather

January 16, 2014

Tee: Zara (similar). Vest: Nordstrom Rack (similar). Necklace: Sisu. Jeans: Gap. Boots: Nordstrom Rack (similar). Clutch: Gap (similar).

I'm so in love with my delicate Minnesota necklace from Sisu. I went to the grand opening of Sisu, a boutique in Woodbury, over the weekend and snagged this pretty for %30 off! This is the outfit I wore to the event and then later out to dinner at a French restaurant and then to Saving Mr. Banks. I have to say that I really enjoyed the movie. I was on the fence about whether or not to see it, but then I ended up going with my mom and we both enjoyed it. My family has been going movie crazy lately, and I love it! I think I've seen six or seven over this break.

11/20

January 15, 2014

Over the weekend I went through the Starbucks drive thru and bought the guy's order behind me for my 11th random act of kindness. I'm going to be honest though, I seriously considered not counting this one because of what happened afterward. When I was driving away, the guy (who's Starbucks I bought) stayed behind me for a couple of turns, and I didn't want that. So I ran a red light. In front of a cop. You can guess what happened next. I'm pretty sure the Starbucks guy saw this all happen. So. Embarrassing. And that's why I thought about not counting this, because it was kind of a fail, and a huge embarrassment.

Here's hoping that numbers 12-20 go more smoothly.

Fashion Myths

There are all sorts of little fashion myths and "rules" that pop up over and over. But that's the thing about fashion, there aren't really any rules. You can go from wearing leather pants and a leopard coat one day to wearing practical snow boots the next. I thought it would be fun to debunk (what a totally ridiculous word) a few of these fashion myths once and for all.

1. Black and brown can't be mixed.
I don't think anyone could argue that these boots aren't chic. I don't know how this "rule" started, but let's banish it, shall we?

2. You can't wear white after Labor Day.
via
I think this has pretty much died out as a rule, but I thought I'd still address it. No white after Labor Day they say? Haven't they heard of Winter White? AKA, one of the hottest trends right now.

3. You can't wear color in the winter.
This one is completely false. Winter is the best time to wear color! I agree that it is our tendency to favor a more muted color palette in the winter. However, a bright pink bag, for example, is the perfect way to combat seasonal depression.

4. To be fashionable you sacrifice comfort.
Blair, arguably one of the most fashionable people on the planet, demonstrates the debunking of this myth perfectly. Hunter's (which we all know I love) are so comfortable, and yet they look so cute! There are tons of examples of chic and comfortable items. For example, if you'll notice, Blair is also wearing a sweatshirt in the above outfit. I will acknowledge that there are just as many items that we wear that are hideously uncomfortable. It's completely up to the wearer though: if you don't want to don 5 inch stilettos, no one's making you!

5. One must be put together to look chic.
I think we can all agree that Blake Lively is the queen of casual chic. Sometimes we may question when the last time she brushed her hair was, but she proves that you can still be stylish with minimal effort. This outfit is so simple: t-shirt + jean jacket + scarf. Could it be any easier?

Are there any fashion "rules" you live by?
