What to Wear for Thanksgiving

November 26, 2014

Hello, and happy Wednesday Friday! I know that I always struggle with what to wear for Thanksgiving, so I put together a simple but put together look that you can pull together last minute. I think most people would have all of these items, or something similar. A chunky sweater, a plaid/gingham shirt, a statement necklace, and booties are all you need.

For all of my American readers, have a wonderful Thanksgiving! And if you plan on Black Friday shopping, good luck! See you back here next week :)

Plaid on Nicollet

November 24, 2014

Blouse: J. Crew Factory (similar). Cardigan: J. Crew (similar). Pants: J. Crew Factory. Boots: Sam Edelman. Purse: Topshop (similar). Hat: Anthropologie (similar).

This is one of those outfits where I'm looking back at it and not really feeling it (I think it's the saggy pants). But alas, that's life. I wore this casual getup for a day of fun with girlfriends. One of my best friends was visiting for the weekend so there were plenty of margaritas, karaoke, and donuts. The best combination!

Enjoy your short week!

Pastels in the Snow

November 19, 2014

Coat: JOA. Sweater: J. Crew Factory. Jeans: J. Crew Factory. Scarf: Gap (similar). Purse: Topshop (similar). Boots: Hunter. Sunglasses: RayBan's

The temperatures have dropped in Minneapolis, and it officially feels like winter! Sweaters, coats, and scarves are a must on the daily. I loved this sweater so much, and I couldn't decide on just one color, so I bought it twice 0:) J. Crew Factory is having a seriously killer sale right now though, so it's the perfect time to stock up!

On a different note, I am FINALLY done with midterms. Now I get to relax for about .5 seconds and then finals will be here. It's crazy how close the semester is to being over. Before I know it I will be a college graduate and looking for a job. Maybe I will take the midterms over job hunting...

Happy Wednesday!

Cozy in the Snow

November 17, 2014

Turtleneck: Old Navy (not very many sizes online, but there were quite a few in store). Sweater: Gap (super old, similar here). Jeans: Gap. Socks: J. Crew. Boots: L.L. Bean

If you can't tell from the above pictures, snow makes me so happy! Unless it's March, but we won't think about that yet. The fresh snowfall over the weekend is making it increasingly more difficult not to listen to Christmas music. Must. Resist.

I haven't shared this on the blog yet, but Mark has accepted a job in California and will start in February. So we've decided that I will be moving to join him in CA after I graduate in May. It's going to be a huge adjustment for me, but I cannot wait to be done with long distance! After four years, it's getting really old. Anyways, why am I telling you this? Because, snow. Since this will be my last winter in MN (for now) I'm trying to savor fall and winter as much as I possibly can!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend and have a great start to your week!

Fabulous Finds

November 14, 2014

1. The perfect mug to drink your holiday cocoa out of from Williams Sonoma.
2. A cozy turtleneck sweater from J. Crew Factory.
3. The most perfect holiday party shoe from ASOS.
4. Loving this plaid moto jacket from Forever 21.
5. A party skirt from J. Crew
6. Cute and cozy from J. Crew

Do you notice a pattern? Lots of grey, gold, and plaid on my radar right now. Tis the season though! This weekend is going to be pretty laid back. Lots of homework and a wine night with my sister are currently on the agenda. Can you believe it's less than two weeks until Thanksgiving?! I genuinely love everything about Thanksgiving, so I can't wait. Now I just need to decide what to wear!

Have a fabulous weekend!

The Pink Coat

November 12, 2014

Coat: JOA. Sweater: Forever 21. Pants: Forever 21. Necklace: ILY Couture. Purse: Forever 21 (similar). Shoes: Sam Edelman (50% off!).

As you can see these pictures were taken before we got a few inches of snow. I was just musing about how beautiful fall was gone and had been replaced by dead and ugly. Thank goodness for the snow. It always makes everything so pretty! Now, about this coat. When I saw it was on sale during the Shopbop friends and family sale I couldn't resist. Because, well pink.

Have a good one!

Holiday Party Attire

November 11, 2014

I know some of you may be thinking it's a little early for this post, and you're not wrong. However, a combination of getting a few inches of snow yesterday and my love of planning ahead lead me to create this post. Personally, I start thinking about what I want to wear for holiday parties any time after Halloween (it's the type A in me), so I thought I would share a fun round-up of what's been catching my eye. A lot of fun, holiday items (especially anything sequined) will sell out the closer we get to Christmas, so it's never too early to start planning! Personally, I bought this sequined top in black and am planning an outfit around it. I also just bought this gold dress for a wedding after New Years! After Thanksgiving (yes, I have some sense of control) I'll be showing you a few different holiday styles that I plan on wearing this year. Can't wait!

Keeping it Simple

November 10, 2014

Jacket: J. Crew (this year's version). Sweater: Old Navy (similar). Scarf: Zara. Faux leather pants: Forever 21. Purse: Forever 21 (similar). Boots: Nordstrom Rack (similar).

There's nothing extraordinary about this outfit. It's mostly basics with some different textures thrown in to make it interesting. There is nothing wrong with simple though! Sometimes you just need a simple outfit that works with minimal effort.

How was your weekend? I went home so that my mom could take care of me :) I know, time to grow up Catherine. Oh well. I'm finally starting to feel better after a pretty rough week. Can't wait till I'm back at 100%. With school and work I don't have time to be sick!

Fabulous Finds

November 7, 2014

1. The coziest looking scarf from H&M
2. The perfect sweater for the upcoming cold weather from Old Navy
3. These Steve Madden pumps are on sale!
4. Still on the hunt for the perfect plaid pants. Loving this pair from ASOS.
5. A chic, wide-brimmed fedora from Zappos
6. How cute and functional are these Sperry's for J. Crew?

Phew, we made it through the week! Any fun plans for the weekend? This virus is still kicking my ass, so I'll be continuing to lay low. The weather is supposed to get pretty nasty in Minneapolis this weekend, so I'll definitely be needing the above scarf, sweater, and boots ;) In all honesty though, I'm so excited for snow!

Sick Chic

November 5, 2014

Coat: Zara (similar). Sweater: Halogen (similar). Scarf: Zara. Jeans: Banana Republic. Hat: Anthropologie (similar). Sunglasses: RayBan. Purse: Topshop (similar). Boots: Sam Edelman

Full disclosure: I had a 6am flight and a raging cold the day this was taken. That's what I love about fall/winter! There are so many accessories like hats and scarves that you can pile on to cover up the fact that you're sick.

Hope your week is going well!

Wardrobe Must-Haves

November 3, 2014

Hello, and happy Monday! Today I'm sharing some of my wardrobe must-haves. I believe that "staples" don't have to be boring or basic. Here are a few items in my closet that have more than payed for themselves.

Hunters:

I went back and forth before buying them debating which color to get. I was worried that getting them in red would be limiting, but I'm so happy I went for it. They stand out, and I've been able to make dozens of outfits around them. I wear them from September-April, so you better believe I'm getting my money's worth.

A chambray:

I was hesitant to wear denim as anything other than pants, but after buying and wearing the hell out of this this J. Crew chambray you can consider me converted. It can be worn on its own, under a cardigan, under a crew-neck sweater, or to balance out a statement piece like the the above floral and gold skirts. I like that it can be worn with pretty much anything, but is more interesting than a plain white oxford.

A leopard skirt:

I bought this skirt on a whim from Target last summer, and I could not be happier that I did. I've made countless outfits around this skirt. I know that in the blog-o-sphere you hear that leopard is a neutral over and over, but it couldn't be truer. Here's a similar option

A gingham button up:

Gingham is a classic print, and can add some fun to an otherwise simple outfit. I find myself reaching for this Old Navy number week after week as a layering piece. The options are truly endless, I even have more outfits planned for this fall/winter around this top! Here's a similar option

While these four items certainly aren't the only pieces pulling their weight in my closet, I do find myself reaching for them time and time again.

p.s.  I had a lovely weekend in California with Mark. We went to a couple Halloween parties on Friday as the Victory in Japan kissing couple:
