Bank Holiday Weekend Recap

May 28, 2013

This past weekend was what they call a "Bank Holiday," or in
other words, a long weekend. This weekend was packed full of fun things. Here's a little recap:

Started off the long weekend on Thursday with the Natural History Museum. Can you believe this gorgeous building was built with the intention of being a museum? It looks like a palace! They had an awesome dinosaur exhibit :)

Friday I went shopping at Harrods--here's my reflection in the Gatsby themed windows. I was then able check it off my bucket list. Yes, I have a tangible, written bucket list. There were so many fabulous things in one place there! Also, I have never felt poorer than when I was in Harrods.

Gatsby window display.

After Harrods I did a little shopping at some more affordable places.

After a long day of shopping I had to refuel with this scrumptious waffle and ice cream.

Saturday we took a day trip to Stonehenge and Bath:

Gorgeous English countryside seen while driving from Stonehenge to Bath.

Lovely green water in the Roman baths.

I know people say it's overrated, but it was on my bucket list, so I'm glad to check another item off!

Then on Sunday I met up with one of my best friends Malorie, who came to visit! We went and found the Parent Trap house, because it's her favorite movie :) (Unfortunately all of our pictures together were on her camera, so I have none of us.)

Then Monday on our Bank Holiday, Ellen and I went to the Tower of London.
Don't mind the cranes...

Lastly, I ate lots of ice cream. They have these brilliant (see what I did there) cones here.

What did you do with your long weekend?

Neutrals in London

May 25, 2013

It's pretty dark in these pictures, so they're not the greatest quality, but I'm loving my new Zara sweater!

Sweater: Zara. Denim: Gap. Necklace: Charlotte Russe. Purse: Topshop (sold out, similar here). Shoes: Chooka. Watch: Fossil.

Primark

May 22, 2013

Forgive me for not posting recently! This week I started classes (sigh) and my internship and so I've been crazy busy. I am now a Junior Researcher at GDR Creative Intelligence here in London. On top of getting acclimated to living in a new, and very busy city, I'm trying to get back into going to school and working. I've been done with spring semester for a week and I've already mentally checked out, so starting classes this week was rough to say the least. Then, on top of all that I've been stressing out about planning weekend trips--which shouldn't be stressful, right? It should be fun planning weekend getaways to various European locations, but alas, it's proving to be a challenge.

Anyways...I'm here today to tell you lovely people about a little place here in the UK called Primark. It's essentially Forever21 x10. It's F21's department store sister. Not only are there floors of clothes, shoes and accessories, but there's also a home section with towels and decorations! Nothing is over 20 pounds (holla!) Naturally, I've already been there twice. Here are a few of the purchases I've made in my two trips.

I love love love stripes and anything nautical, so I couldn't pass up this slouchy bag!

Cute greige heels.

I needed a black blazer to wear for my internship interview. Primark is great for basics!

I love me some stripes, but my polka dot collection continues to grow with this blouse.

It's hard to tell, but this is a blush color.

Primark is great, but similarly to F21 it's soo overwhelming. You definitely need to be in the mood to shop, especially since it's packed with tourists. If you're ever in London, I would seriously recommend checking this gem out! The shopping in London is to die for (obviously) I can't wait to hit up Zara and Topshop (which we don't have in Minneapolis)!

Thanks for reading! Hopefully I won't go so long again without posting.

The Thing About London Is...

May 17, 2013

I'm thinking this may become a series, because I will continually learn things about London/Londoners during my next six weeks here. However, here are some of the things I have learned/observed thus far:

1. All the men (okay not all, but the vast majority) are immaculately dressed. I'm talking put together, stylish, and well groomed. I appreciate this.
2. I cannot figure out what side of the sidewalk to walk on. In the States we walk on the right, and we drive on the right...so does that mean that I should walk on the left side here? As far as I'm concerned it's a free-for-all, because I haven't seen consistency anywhere!
3. Even their fast food restaurants are classier than in the U.S.
4. Londoners don winter-wear even later in the year than Minnesotans. I've seen multiple pairs of Uggs, winter jackets, hats and leather boots.
5. Advertisements are much larger, and displayed in different places than in the States. For example, here I've seen a giant Beyonce H&M ad on the side of a corporate building.
6. The women are so stylish--I love it.
7. I can function on my own in a large city. Today I rode the tube from school to my flat (which includes transferring once, I'll have you know) alone and with no problems. I also went on a few errands alone...okay, okay, they were only places in my neighborhood. Baby steps.

While I'm far from being a master of London, I'm getting more comfortable every day!

First Few Days

May 16, 2013

Hi all! I made it safe and sound to London and am loving it so far :) I was sure I would love it, even though I had never been before and I was right! This is a city after my own heart. Here are a few pictures of what I've been up to over the past two days. Also, check out this awesome Instagram of Big Ben.

Ellen (I don't know if I mentioned this or not, but I'm here with my lovely sister Ellen) and my room. Our flat is much nicer than I was lead to believe. We're sharing it with four other girls from the University of Pittsburgh.

View from our room in Camden.

Our tiny balcony off our room.

Living room in our flat.

Ellen and I have dubbed these our "tiny phones." We got them just so we can call/text each other while we're here. Can you say, "welcome to the 21st century?"

Closet space.

What I'm wearing: Trench: Calvin Klein. Flats: Target. Tank: J. Crew (old). Bag: JCPenny's (old). Pants: Banana Republic.

We've been doing all of the touristy things the past few days to get our bearings in London! Thanks for following me to a new continent and I hope you stick around!

Bon Voyage!

May 15, 2013

By the time this is published I will be across the Atlantic in London! This summer I will be traveling quite a bit, first to London, France and Ireland and then on to California and finally Boston. So let the summer of travel commence!

I have no idea how busy I'm going to be while abroad, so I can't say for sure how often I'll post (at least weekly, I promise). I will be sure to take tons of pictures to share :) Thanks so much for reading, I hope you stick around! You can follow along with my adventures on Twitter or Instagram.

May 14, 2013

Hello all! I'm trying to prepare myself for the 92, yes that's right ninety two, degree day ahead of us here in the Minneapolis. However, that's the least of my concerns because I will be boarding my plane to London tonight! I just have one anthropology final (sigh) and a bit of packing to get through first.

Denim: Gap. Oxford: Ann Taylor (old). Blazer: H&M (old). Purse: Kate Spade (old). Shoes: Target. Sunglasses: Target. Watch: Fossil. Bracelets: J. Crew, Charlotte Russe (in stores only).

I'll see all of you on the other side of the pond ;)
