Labor Day Sales

August 29, 2014

via

Sooo cutting back on shopping isn't really working out that well for me. Especially since there are so many amazing Labor Day sales going on right now. So here's a little roundup of my favorite sales so you can enjoy too!

•Nordstrom: some seriously good prices with up to 40% off. My picks: gold skirt (may have bought this), elbow patch sweater (bought this in oatmeal during the NSale--so soft!), red lace dress,  cognac booties

•J. Crew Factory: this store is a blessing and a curse. I love pretty much everything, and they're constantly having sales so I always feel like I need to jump on the items I want! My picks: plaid shirt, merino leather pocket sweater, burgundy jeweled top, striped tee with leather sleeves

•Old Navy: some of their sales items are a joke (like this), but others are a serious steal. My picks: fabulous graphic tee (I mean, I basically need this, right?), puffer vest, military vest, leopard dress

•Gap: up to 40% off. My picks: a cozy turtleneck, leather sneakers, leather satchel

Have a happy Labor Day! See you back here on Tuesday!

Floral + Powder Blue

August 28, 2014

Pants: J. Crew. T-shirt: Old Navy. Jacket: Zara (couldn't find a similar faux leather version, but here's a real one). Shoes: Steve Madden (similar). Clutch: vintage Coach (similar). Necklace: ILY Couture

This outfit is a combination of a lot of my favorite things. This Zara jacket is one of my all-time favorite purchases. These J. Crew pants are so comfortable (I wore them on the plane to and from NYC and CA), but they're fun to dress up too. I also really love this Paris tee from Old Navy. It's simple, but fun.

Hope your week is going well! It's my last week of summer and I haven't decided how I feel about it yet. TBD, I guess!

Fabulous Finds

August 27, 2014

I had planned to have an outfit post ready to go today, as per usual on Wednesdays. However, when we went out to take pictures last night it wasn't light enough out. So we'll have to retake them. I should have that ready to go either tomorrow or Friday. So in the meantime, here's a little fall fashion inspiration for you!
1. In case you missed the Zara scarf last year (still kicking myself for not buying it), they've come out with a really similar version this year!
3. H&M

Rainy Day

August 25, 2014

Dress: J. Crew (old, similar here). Belt: J. Crew (similar). Boots: Hunter. Trench: Calvin Klein. Purse: vintage Coach (similar).

I've missed my Hunter's. Which is funny because I basically wore them every day last fall/winter, so by the time March came around I was so sick of them. Now we've had a healthy four month separation and I'm ready to be reunited. The same thing happened with this trench coat. I wore it every. single. day in London, and I thought "I never want to wear this coat again." But now enough time has passed and I can happily wear it. It's kind of funny the relationships you develop with clothes. No? Just me?

Anyways pretty much the last week has been rainy/cloudy in MN, so this outfit is perfect. It's still summery, but weather appropriate.

I'm obviously loving all of J. Crew and J. Crew Factory's new arrivals! They're constantly having sales too, so that only makes it easier to hit the purchase button!

Happy weekend :)

Transition

August 20, 2014

Dress: Gap (old, similar here and here). Shoes: Sam Edelman. Vest: Nordstrom Rack (similar). Tote: Old Navy (similar). Necklaces: Dress Lily c/o, J. Crew Factory. Sunglasses: Rayban

Like the rest of the fashion community, I'm itching for fall. Every spring I revel in the sunshine and warmer temps and think to myself, "I will never wish for fall again." And every year in August I get antsy for cooler weather. It's a viscous cycle. Fall is easily my favorite season for fashion because, well layers. I love layering without having to put on a giant parka that ruins the outfit. Also you can wear cute shoes in the fall without freezing your feet off and without worrying about ruining them in the slush/snow. Anyways, where am I going with this? While the temperatures in Minnesota are still summer-worthy, you can start to transition outfits into fall with little touches, like this leather vest. Other ways to transition an outfit into fall: add a denim jacket or booties instead of sandals.

On a different note, I've been buying a ton of stuff for my new apartment (can't wait to move in on the 1st!!) so I've been trying to shop my closet more. Therefore, you will probably be seeing a lot of familiar items in the coming weeks :)

p.s. I told you these were my favorite shoes!

Favorite Shoes

August 18, 2014

Blouse: J. Crew Factory. Shorts: J. Crew (similar). Shoes: Sam Edelman. Purse: Phillip Lim for Target (similar). Sunglasses: J. Crew Factory (similar).

You've probably noticed by now that I wear these shoes quite a bit. I've had them for a few months and I'm still obsessed with them. I think they go with everything, and they're practical. I couldn't recommend them enough. And as if I you haven't seen them enough, you'll see them again on Wednesday :)

p.s. here's a new pair of Sam Edelman sneakers that I have my eye on!

Travel Diary: California

August 13, 2014

I don't have a second outfit post lined up this week (too busy savoring every minute in CA with Mark), but here are some snaps from the past week in northern California visiting my beau.

Mark's campus is so quaint and beautiful, and so different from the University of Minnesota.

The beautiful view from Lombard Street in San Francisco.

Lombard Street was so fun to see (crazy packed with tourists though). The houses on the street were stunning!

When Mark mentioned something about a vintage arcade, I had a feeling that a scene from The Princess Diaries took place there. Sure enough, I spotted this guy that Julie Andrews the Queen of Genovia arm wrestled.

Concert selfie.

One of the highlights of my trip was the Beyonce and Jay-Z concert in SF (best boyfriend ever!). Needless to say, they were amazing. The entire thing was just a huge production: pyrotechnics, dancing, videos. The concert was outside at AT&T Park where the Giants play. We had a pretty good view of the Bay Bridge, but this picture doesn't do it justice.

On one of our last days together we took a ferry across the SF Bay to Sausalito. Here's a view of the Bay Bridge from the ferry (with some much needed chai tea to keep warm).

Sausalito was stunning. So many beautiful houses built up into the hills with what I can only imagine are insane views of the bay and SF.

We had a lovely lunch sipping long island ice teas and watching sailboats go by.

We ended our time in Sausalito sitting at a bar on a balcony with this view. Doesn't get much better than that.

Overall it was a fabulous trip. I loved being able to spend the whole week with Mark and explore more of the area that he calls home!

Embellished

August 11, 2014

Sweatshirt: J. Crew Factory. Jeans: Loft. Sneakers: Sam Edelman. Purse: vintage Coach (similar).

I'm heading back home today :( I'm sad to leave Mark, but ready to get back to my routines. We had a pretty perfect last weekend together. On Friday we went out for margaritas and quesadillas at a cute outdoor Mexican restaurant, and then we saw Boyhood. We didn't know much about the movie going in, but we both really enjoyed it. Then on Saturday we took a ferry from San Francisco to Sausalito where we spent the day basically eating and drinking, with a little bit of walking mixed in. The views were amazing. Yesterday we had brunch and then watched movies and just hung out savoring our last day together.

Hope you had a great weekend!
