I had an interview today! Here's the outfit I wore. I decided to spice up a pretty drab outfit with a metallic belt, a statement watch and a patterned shoe. P.S. I got the internship :)

I don't blame you if, you...
...work out once and count it for the whole week.
...make left overs last for a week because you don't want to cook.
...watch reality TV on a regular basis.
...listened to Christmas music before Black Friday.
...have a crush on the president.
...watch The Daily Show and equate it with watching the news.
...come home from school and immediately put on your pajamas.

Today I was struggling to come up with ideas for blogging...everything sounded so blah. Then I started thinking that pretty much everything sounds blah to me right now. It's that time of year, the semester is coming to an end and to be honest: I'm bored. I feel like I do the same thing every day and I've only been back from Thanksgiving break for two days. The idea of having to get up today and go to class and then go to work, come home, write a paper and then get ready to do it all over again tomorrow is incredibly boring. Christmas break and spring semester are looking very attractive to this strung-out student right now. There is pretty much a constant knot between my shoulder blades that I'm sure will remain there while I push through the next three weeks.

So how do I fight this monotony you may ask? I've said it before, and I'll say it again: anticipate something. We've been trying to plan fun things to break up the dreariness that lies ahead for us. For example, this weekend we're going to the Gopher basketball game, supporting Emma at her Christmas choir concert and...hosting a Christmas party! Anticipation really does make the anxiety somewhat bearable, but now to get through the rest of the week...

Here in Bierman 215 we are ready for Christmas. Last night when we all got home from break we spent the whole night decorating to celebrate the official start of the Christmas season. I've said it before and I'll say it again, twinkle lights really do make things magical.
The apartment just feels special now!

Yesterday I went to Ulta in search of two new holiday nail polishes. Unfortunately, I was unable to find either of them but I did get a new red to replace my all time favorite A Oui Bit of Red by OPI. The new red is called Big Apple Red and is an OPI top 10 so I'm hoping it's as good as my old one! I am normally an OPI girl, but I bought my very first ever non-OPI nail polish. It's called Blaze by Zoya and I was pleased with it.
When I bought it I thought it was a magenta-y color but it turned out a darker red when I put two coats on, so I ended up liking it even better!

Well Black Friday came and went and I have seven new tops to show for it. We are by no means hard core about Black Friday shopping. We went at midnight just so we wouldn't have to wake up early, then again when we woke up to the stores that didn't open at midnight. I've found that clothing stores are not crazy busy like department stores, and that's all I shop for. So here are a few of my finds!
All three tops are from Gap. The red sweater is a cozy sweatshirt material for $26.97, the striped sweater is so comfortable and my favorite style: slouchy for $26.97! Finally the green henley is super comfortable and what my sister and I call a "normal person shirt" for $18.36.
These two tops are both from Banana Republic. The maroon cowl-neck, cable-knit has the potential to be my new favorite sweater. It was $53.70 and a dream come true since I'd been searching for a good cable-knit and it was just a bonus that it was a cowl neck! The righthand top is kind of hard to see since it's black but it's a lace shell and absolutely adorable for $41.70.
I was so excited when I found this lace peplum top at Loft for $34.75. I was searching for simple pullover sweaters because I have a massive amount of cardigans (27!!) that require a shirt such as this to wear underneath. Therefore I want more tops that are an outfit within themselves so I don't always have to worry about putting together an outfit. As you can see I partially succeeded in buying pullovers but slipped with the two shells :)

One other thing I noticed during Black Friday shopping was that ponchos are back in style...again I must ask, why?!

Today I got together with some friends from high school and saw the new Twilight movie...not sure I'd recommend it. It wasn't as awful as the first three, but definitely not worth the $10.50 I paid for it. It's always fun to see friends from high school though. I'm continually amazed at how easy it is to fall back into the way things used to be. In my opinion that's when someone is a true friend, when you can go months without seeing them, but when you're finally back together it's as if no time has passed. I've been fortunate enough to find a few of those people, and I plan to hold on to them.

I was just browsing Pinterest and I keep seeing these everywhere and all I want to say is: why? Why is this a thing?

Above Knuckle Rings

In my opinion, going home is one of the great joys in life. I know it's cliché and I know I live close to home but there really is no place like it. I can't have sleepovers with my adorable puppy at school:
Just so happy to be home. I can't wait for my sister to get home tomorrow and then the whole family will be together. I'm very excited for the coming week! Lot's of Friends, Fun, Fashion (Black Friday!!!) and Food (Thanksgiving!) soon to come :)

Today my roommates and I went to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts to see the Chinese terracotta warriors; I'd highly recommend it! I learned that the first emperor of China was buried with an 8,000 piece, life-size terracotta army. In addition to the army he was buried with chariots, sacrificed concubines and horses and lots of pottery and gifts. Seeing this exhibit got me thinking about what I would like to buried with. At this point in my life I don't have very many material items that mean a whole lot to me. The things I immediately thought of were all jewelry pieces from my family.

The top picture is a monogrammed necklace my mom gave me for my birthday. The bottom lefthand picture is my add-a-pearl necklace. This necklace was from my grandma and it started out with one pearl. My mom has continued the tradition and every Christmas and birthday I get more pearls to add, now there's 42 pearls. Then the bottom right picture are my diamond earrings that I got from my mom as a graduation present. All of these pieces remind me of my family, who are extremely important to me. Lastly, I can't be directly buried with my family so I would also want to be buried with pictures of them.

With the Thanksgiving holiday fast approaching I find myself buried in midterms and projects that professors are trying to fit in before break. With all of these deadlines coming at me in a whirlwind I am overwhelmed with stress and decided to compose a list of fun things that help me de-stress.

1. Plan something to look forward to. After some of my midterms I'm having lunch with my mom, who always makes me feel better. Then on Saturday my roommates and I are going to check out a new exhibit at the Minneapolis Art Institute which I cannot wait for! The anticipation makes all of the anxiety semi-worthwhile.
2. Vent. I know I shouldn't be condoning complaining but seriously, sometimes it just feels so good. Let a good friend know that you need to complain and allow five minutes to just get it all off your chest. Also, sometimes nothing feels better than empathy.
3. Sleep. I know, I know don't ignore your problems, but if you're well rested it makes the massive amount of studying ahead of you seem so much more accomplishable.
4. Prioritize and take things one day at a time. So often I find myself stressing about a test next week when I really need to focus on the one I have tomorrow! Making lists always helps me and makes a week's worth of projects, papers and midterms more manageable.
5. This may just be me, but listen to Christmas music to de-stress. I know my mom will be horrified when she reads this but the season is right around the corner and it relaxes me!

I've got shopping on my mind. Black Friday is in 10 days! I haven't shopped in over a month and I am craving the thrill of searching through racks for the best finds. I've been holding out specifically for black Friday and now I'm getting anxious. I'm at the point where I look at my tiny, crammed closet and say, "I've got nothing to wear!" Pathetic I know. The best way to shop and to make sure I don't spend too much money is to make a list of what I want to buy and set a budget. Now to narrow down the list...

November 12, 2012

Today in Minneapolis we got a sneak preview of winter! 25 degrees and flurries all day had me thinking about some of my favorite things to do in the winter. I love to go to Target and scope out which artists recorded new Christmas CD's and then figure out which songs I like best. Last year I discovered a new favorite thing to do during winter. My roommate and I went to the Barnes and Noble on Nicollet and went up to the second floor with our Starbucks on a snowy night. We sat in the chairs by the windows and watched it snow while we read magazines; it was so peaceful! Being on campus for the first snow of the year is always fun for me. There are students who come from all over the country/world to go to school way up here in Minnesota, so on the day that it snows for the first time I like to watch people's reactions and see if I can guess who is experiencing snow/winter for the first time. Lastly, when I'm at home, my sister and I take our dog Dori out on the frozen pond in our backyard. It's too funny to watch her run around and chase after sticks and then not be able to stop when she tries to pick them up. Slightly evil, but hilarious nonetheless!

Fun little things to do to brighten a dreary, homework-filled Sunday:
1. Light candles! It always lifts my spirits.

2. Plug in any twinkle lights. I am a complete sucker for twinkle lights, they make everything pretty.
3. Take a break from homework and indulge, whether it's with a catnap or a favorite warm winter drink.
4. Break from studying and listen to a favorite song, just let the song envelop you, or belt it out.
5. Reward yourself with something. I like to study for a few hours and then allow myself an hour of Netflix :)

What I'm loving on this fine fall Saturday is...color blocking! So classy and never out of style.

My favorite color blocked top from J. Crew, a classic gold and black color blocked bracelet from Forever Love and the accessory I always keep with me, my color blocked phone case from J. Crew. You're probably starting to get an idea about my style and go to stores. My goal when it comes to styling: polished and classic.

11 Things That Instantly Brighten My Day

1. When I'm walking around campus and my favorite song comes up on my iPod's shuffle
2. When I wake up in the middle of the night and still have multiple hours to sleep
3. Dressing casually on Fridays
4. Actually liking what I have to read for class
5. When I get off work early
6. When I go to check out at the cash register and find out what I'm buying is on sale
7. When someone holds the door for me/and or other forms of faith in humanity being restored
8. When a stranger compliments me
9. When I can tailgate into my apartment building, therefore not having to get my keys out
10. When someone I haven't talked to in a while reaches out to me
11. Not having to set an alarm for the morning

What I'm loving today: my oxblood skinnies!
I love these because as you can see from my closet I'm really into neutrals so it's fun to throw in a pop of color!
Creme, tan, gray and black are some of my favorites. (Yes I do color coordinate my closet!)

Picture of the day!
My adorable golden retriever Dori taking a nap on my bed at home. My mom says she misses me, I miss her too! Can't wait to go home to her for Thanksgiving.

I wrote about my friends and how they inspire me. Well recently it's been my boyFriend who has inspired me to be more motivated about my professional career. I know as a sophomore I still have plenty of time to prepare before being in the work world, but he has inspired me to take control. I've taken a few small steps in the past 24 hours, including ordering business cards, updating/restarting my blog, taking the first steps in making a LinkedIn, researching some awesome internships I plan to apply to and lastly reaching out to a small company and offering to do their social media. These may be small steps, but they're more than I've done before today! I'm basically trying to build up my resume however possible. I'm feeling very accomplished and would like to stay on this productive streak! We'll see how it goes...

November 6, 2012

Welcome to my blog! Let's break down my four F's. First: friends. My friends mean the world to me, they inspire me, make me think and support me. I'll post about them, the conversations we've had, the places we've visited or the crazy things we do. Second: fun. I'm all about trying new things so I'll post about new places I've been or things I've seen or done that are fun! Third: fashion. Simply put: I adore shopping. I may not love all the trends, but you're sure to hear my opinions on all things fashion related whether it's my awesome steals at a sale or my fabulous outfit combinations. Lastly: food. I'm all over Pinterest finding great recipes to try, so I'll share my experiences with trying new recipes or restaurants! That's what I'm about, and I vow to post at least weekly!
