Honeymoon Musings

February 24, 2017

I mentioned in last week's Wedding Q&A post that we're leaning towards Hawaii for our honeymoon but we haven't booked or solidified anything yet. We've been talking about it a lot this week and so I thought I'd blog about it in the hopes that you guys have some tips or recommendations and just to help me think out loud a bit!

So we landed on Hawaii because it's fairly close and doesn't require the hassle that comes along with traveling to a different country. Our goal for our honeymoon is relaxation. So we figure if we just want to stick around the hotel and lounge by the pool/beach why go all the way to another country to do that? Also, we'll be traveling in October, so that rules out pretty much all of the Caribbean because it's hurricane season there. Now we're mostly decided on Hawaii, but I keep wondering if there's something or somewhere we're overlooking. I keep reading about these amazing places where you can have private beaches and villas that you can only get to by boat. That sounds secluded and romantic, no? The part that doesn't sound so romantic is the 40+ hours of travel to get to said places. I love the idea of going somewhere that's unique and adventurous, but that's really not what we're looking for on this trip.

What we are looking for:
Convenience. Would love somewhere that doesn't require over a day to get to!
Private or secluded beach access. Remember how I talked about the craziness at the beach in Cabo kind of ruining the experience? I really don't want that on this trip. I want our time at the beach to be relaxing and not filled with tons of other people walking around and shouting at you.
Mostly adults. Since it's our honeymoon and we're going for that romantic vibe, somewhere that's not geared towards kids would be ideal.

Now, are we being too picky? Does such a place exist? I feel like I have a lot of questions and have thought about working with a travel agent to answer them and just have someone else take care of all the planning for us. I've had friends who did this and it sounds so nice to not have to worry about it! I've never worked with a travel agent though so I'm not sure 100% how it works and it does feel like it's not quite necessary if we're not actually leaving the US.

Now, here's where you guys come in! I'd love to hear where you honeymooned and if you'd recommend it! I'd also love to know if there's anywhere we're overlooking? Been anywhere awesome that we should add to our list? Or if you've been to Hawaii, which island would you recommend, and was there a specific hotel you think would be perfect?

If we end up planning it ourselves I know it will take some research and I also know that the best reviews are from friends and people you know, so that's why I'm asking!
